Step 1: Fully communication from the start We would need you to involve us in the design process at an early stage. More details on the application would help us a lot. The materials, dimensions and corresponding tolerances form the starting point of the design process. You can share your experience of using the seals before, what are the advantages and disadvantages, do you have suggested designs, what performances would you need to meet, what are your target prices, etc. This allows both of us to work cost-efficiently. |

Step 2: Choice of material The design process of a seal generally begins by identifying three factors that the seal faces: Pressure, Temperature, Chemicals. What is the working pressure and temperature? Are there special chemicals? On the basis of these data, a basic material is chosen. In the construction of a API6A equipment, for example, a seal must be resistant to H2S. In that case, JST's PF001 (PTFE) or PK002 (PEEK) can be chosen. If a seal must be RGD resistant, JST's H3385 (HNBR85) or V5390 (FKM90) can be used, for example. We will also have to consider about the durability. In some cases, longer lifespan is required to save on maintenance, and then we might have to choose a more expensive material. The method of assembly can also affect the choice of materials. Correct assembly is essential for the customized seal to function optimally. |

Step 4: Testing the seal During the designing process, computer simulation is a possibility, but because there are so many factors and diversity in materials involved, we would advise to do a trial with the first design so as to verify the material and seal structure are suitable for your application or not. JST is equipped with various material test equipment, sealing products simulation test equipment, as well as seal performance test equipment like the PR2 test machine. |

Step 5: Mass production After the design process and the test, the next phase is to adjust and improve the design of the customized sealing, if necessary. When this phase is completed, the mass production of the seals is started. A test is also carried out first with the tooling. If the results are good, production can start. |

Step 6: Packaging and delivery JST has various special packaging to protect the customized seals as well as possible during transport and storage.
