How does the V packings work?
V-packings, also known as Vee packing seal and Chevron V-packings, or V stack, is a kind of stacked seal. It is combined by a male adapter, a female adapter and a number of intermediate V rings.
V-packings are designed to be used in applications such as hydraulic cylinders, fracturing pumps or well downhole. Facing different working condition (temperature, pressure, media), the raw material differs as well. JST can offer the V-packing solution with NBR, HNBR, FKM, Fabric enforced rubber, virgin PTFE, Filled PTFE, PEEK and PU.
V-packings is simple but very effective. They are always installed in sets-- the intermediate V rings do the sealing, the male adapter provides a flat surface to support the V rings, and the female adapter produces the compression of the V-ring, which can also adjust the compression demand of the V-rings.
When the pressure acts on the female adapter, forcing the lips of all V rings open and squeezes the rod / bore tightly, makes the media hard to pass through. Although some media can pass through the first V ring, the pressure reduces much during this period, and so does the pressure reduce when it passes through the second V ring, the third V ring…Finally the V-packings achieves the sealing effect.
