The NORSOK M-710 RGD test is a standard for the performance of rubber sealing materials under rapid gas decompression (RGD) conditions. The test is designed to evaluate the ability of sealing materials to withstand pressure and rapid gas decompression in the oil and gas industry.


The test standards and methods

The NORSOK M-710 standard specifies the specific conditions and steps of the test:


  • Test medium‌: Dry gas medium such as pure CO2 or mixed gas (such as CO2/CH4 mixture) is usually used.
  • Test temperature‌: The test should be carried out at three different temperatures: 100℃, 150℃ and 200℃.
  • Test pressure‌: The test pressure is 150bar, 200bar and 300bar.
  • Exposure period‌: The standard initial exposure period is 72 hours (+4/-0 hours).
  • Decompression rate‌: The standard decompression rate is 20-40bar per minute.


‌Number of decompression cycles‌: The decompression rate of each decompression cycle should be kept constant while keeping the test temperature stable‌.


The test Purpose and Application:

The main purpose of the NORSOK M-710 RGD test is to ensure the reliability and durability of rubber sealing materials in the oil and gas industry. The test is applicable to various oil and gas well conditions, including low-sulfur oil wells, high-sulfur oil wells, CO2 wells and other application scenarios. Through this test, the performance of the material under rapid gas decompression conditions can be verified to ensure its sealing effect and safety under extreme working conditions‌.
