What type of seals can be used for oil well production?
Oil well production is the most important stage in the lifespan of oil wells, which prepares oil or natural gas for final treatment by releasing hydrocarbons. Separation is usually carried out on the seabed, rather than on the platform of offshore oil wells. In addition to dealing with system pressures up to 1,380 bar (20,000 PSI) and temperatures exceeding 900C(1,650F) in flare stack controls, seals in well production and service applications are exposed to a wide range of aggressive chemicals such as scale inhibitors, acids, brines and other service fluids including H2S. Ensuring the compatibility of sealing compounds with modern oil well service fluids and meeting expectations for extended service life poses a continuous challenge to material development, and there is an increasing need for evidence from test data to support the sealing's performance in applications.
