Do you know more about a Cantilever V-Spring?
PTFE seal designs were developed to incorporate energizing elements such as O-Rings and metallic springs. These energizers ensure the PTFE seal is always in contact with the sealing surface.
JST utilizes three different types springs to internally energize PTFE and other polymer seals, each with its own advantages. Below, we will discuss in details for some of the advantages of cantilever V-springs and their most suitable applications.
Advantages
V-spring is a commonly used spring type, with a V-shaped spring cross-section. The sheet shaped opening and "cantilever" design concentrate its load on the leading edge of the sealing lip, providing reliable wiping ability for the seal. V-springs have a moderate load and a large deformation range.
Mainly used for shaft and piston seals in medium pressure reciprocating mechanisms, as well as rotary shaft seals; Suitable for wear media.
The combination of V-springs and high wear-resistant sealing materials such as UHMW-PE can create extremely effective sealing solutions for viscous media such as adhesives and epoxy resins.
To further enhance the scraping and sealing potential, V-springs can be stacked or nested within the seal jacket. This will increase the spring load and allow for the use of multiple redundant sealing contact points on the jacket.
They Have a Wide Deflection Range
Among all available spring types, V-springs have the widest deflection range. It is well suited for very large diameter components where hardware misalignment, dimensional tolerances, and clearances are substantial.
They Can Withstand High Temperatures
The shape of the V-Spring also makes it very suitable for high-temperature applications. PTFE sealing jacket at 450°F or higher can be softened enough to allow the spring shaped inclined coil to truly begin embedding into the sealing lip.
Cost-Effective
V-springs are manufactured by forming metal strips through progressive molds and punches. It is the most economical spring for mass production, usually sold in spools hundreds of feet long.
V-springs are widely used in the entire sealing industry and have many advantages.
It may be your best choice for sealing applications, or there may be a better choice.
Regardless of the method, JST will utilize its years of experiences and engineering expertise to specify suitable spring energized seals to meet your sealing goals.
