Glyd Ring: Dynamic Sealing Solution for Industrial Pneumatic and Hydraulic Applications
The glyd ring is a radial sealing element composed of a polymer ring and an elastic O-ring energizer. This type of seal is typically chosen for general industrial pneumatic/hydraulic applications that require dynamic sealing elements.
During installation, the elastic elastomer is compressed and the polymer ring is pushed onto the dynamic groove mating surface, forming a tight seal even under low pressure. Under higher hydrostatic system pressure, the O-ring is energized by the medium, thereby increasing the contact pressure on the mating surface.
The polymer ring always faces the dynamic side of the application, while the elastomer element provides a positive seal at low pressure and compensates for the decrease in polymer thickness caused by wear and cold flow.
There are various profiles to be choosen for both rod and piston configurations.
Polymer components are typically made of PTFE based compounds, providing low friction and high wear resistance. However, the chemical compatibility of the glyd ring is limited to the chemical compatibility of the elastic actuator. There are various elastic materials to choose from for the actuator components, such as NBR, EPDM, and FKM.
